Hello everyone! Ali here, as you might have guessed. I know I've lied and said that I would update this thing regularly, but the truth is that I'm very forgetful.... and lazy. Anyway, I've been working on my GCSE's, and just this Friday I had a Biology GCSE exam. I also have my mock Media exam coming up, and I have to perform a Drama piece for the GCSE board. Oh the joy of school. I have recently acquired an obsession for anything old-fashioned. It's really weird, but I love looking at old photographs and reading novels set in the Victorian and Edwardian times. And I would really love to style my room around the 30's and 40's. I can't wait for Twilight to come out in the UK, but after reading the reviews, apparently it isn't all it's cracked up to be. And I am quite a harsh critic. In fact, after reading the Twilight saga, I now have quite a dislike in Bella Swan, but I'll write about that later. A couple of weeks ago, I learned how to ice-skate! I know that might sound a bit weird that I've never ice-skated before, but I wasn't much of a Winter person. I turned out to love it and can't wait to come to the States and skate on Mandy's pond! I hope Amanda, Erin, Elsie, Emily and Colleen won the Lip Synch competition! Although I prefer the song that Nick Pastor Poe and his group were doing, I still hope that you girls won!! Woohoo! And Rachael, I hope you have great luck in all of your cheerleading competitions! I love all of you guys, and can't wait to see you at Christmas time (I'm coming home on the 22nd and staying up until around New Years.)  ♥ aliana

twilight

Now, I know this might be boring to people who don't really care about my opinion about fantasy books, but for others it might be fascinating. I once sent an e-mail to Elsie and Colleen telling them, after I read it, if I liked Twilight or not, and I said I did. I still do, but after re-reading it, there's just one major issue that I now have with the book. And that  issue is Bella. For one, I don't really like her name. It's too common for the typical protagonist in a book, how her name is supposed to represent beauty and strength. And I personally think that Stephanie Meyer got the name off of Elizabeth Swann from the POTC series. I mean, her name could have been something more interesting with a hidden meaning. Now I know that that might sound a bit too picky, and that I can't judge a character by her name, but it's more than that. At first when I read the book, I thought she was an average looking teenage girl that had self esteem issues like the rest of us. Fair enough. But when reading it a second time, and taking in more detail, I realized that Bella was much too self-deprecating which made her seem weak. The other bugging thing about her is that she is incredibly shallow. I mean, leaving her family to go join her true love for eternity seems a bit too much, don't you think? And I know the comments I'll get, like, "Oh but they're love for each other is so strong" and "It's just a book, it's not real" but the whole point of it is to show real   true love in a fantasmical way. The other point I have to make, and I know it doesn't mention this in the book, but because of Bella's self-esteem issues, do you think that the other reason why she would have wanted to become a vampire is to become beautiful and strong, unlike her human self? It was, after all, her decision to become a vampire, unlike the other characters, and when she does become a vampire, she is insufferably vain and it's hard to be on the same level as her. Which reminds me to add that I think throughot the entire series, it's still hard to identify with her. I actually thought I'd have written enough here, but I just thought of some other points that don't really have to do with her character, more of Stephanie Meyer. Have you ever noticed that the description that Meyer gives of Bella is incredibly similar to her? Who know's what I mean? Well, if you don't I'll post a description of Bella, and then a picture of Meyer and label the similarities. The one other thing that bugs me is the name Renesmee. Now I think it looks pretty printed on ink in a book, but when said it sounds disgusting. The sound "nez" just doesn't sound pretty at all, and I know that it is Renee and Esme combined, but still, it just sounds gross. I would have preferred if it was Renessa, which would make the "nez" turn in to a "ness" sound wich is a lot sweeter to hear. Or something along the lines of that. Sorry if this entire thing bored you, but I just had to tell someone my thoughts.
